Behold - the power of paint

Remember that giant, dark, overbearing hutch I have contemplated getting rid of? In case you don't remember, I had decided to repaint it to give it one last chance to earn a place in my house. (I have decided that if things aren't beautiful and don;t make me happy, they have no place being in my house, but that is another post...) Anyway, I finally got around to painting it... Black. (Actually, "French Bulldog Black" by Martha Stewart - which is actually Valspar.) Maybe I didn't think this giant, dark, overbearing part through to the end, but I love it. At first, I didn't see much of a difference - I mean, it went from dark wood to dark paint - but now I do. Each of the boys have said that they think it looks better.

The Before

A more solid piece of furniture you will never find. It was my great grandmother's, and sat in my grandma's basement since her MIL died - in 1965. I would guess that it is over 100 years old. It is missing a drawer, so when I get around to it we will make a false front (a drawer front without all that pesky drawer behind it.) The total cost for this project is $14 for paint and $16 for supplies that will be reused.

The After

The doors have never closed right. Eventually I will get a better version of the thingy that is supposed to hold them closed.

Oh, and just in case you think you can't paint your furniture because you don't have the space:

Remember that I live in Mississippi where it is so humid paint outside will never dry, so everything has to be done inside. The fan is for me, because for some reason even with the A/C on, it seemed like it was 150°. (And don't look at the crap under the computer armoire. That is what happens when teenagers are in charge of vacuuming.)

I have my free quart of Glidden in "Crisp Linen White" that I am going use it to paint the computer armoire. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe not.
